Jammu & Kashmir: Govt accused of disappearance of 9500 people
02-06-2012
Srinagar, J & K, India, (Greater Kashmir): Accusing the government of being responsible for disappearance of 9500 persons in last 20 years, Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that incidents like Al-Faran kidnapping, Chattisinghpora massacre and Machil fake encounter were the handiwork of government agencies aimed at defaming Kashmir movement.

“The fake encounters like Chattisinghpora and Machil have exposed the hand of government in the killing of innocent people. Recently a book authored by two journalists has exposed the killing of foreigners by government agencies. It should be eye-opener for India as well as international community,”

Mirwaiz said while addressing the Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid here.

“It is by the revelations in the book that we came to know that it was the handiwork of agencies. The Army and government are responsible for disappearances,” he said.

Calling for a probe through an independent agency in the 6,000 mass graves, Mirwaiz said that Hurriyat will continue its struggle for an impartial probe to know the truth.

Lambasting the government for ‘not even implementing the recommendations of SHRC’ in the mass graves and enforced disappearance cases, Mirwaiz said, “The recommendations are deliberately ignored by the government.”

Mirwaiz said that people, particularly youth, were subjected to enforced disappearance in last 20 years for demanding their rights. He said that they have full sympathy with the families of the victims. “We share their pain and grief,” Mirwaiz said.

He also reiterated the stand of Hurriyat Conference that the sacrifices rendered by the people of Kashmir during last 20 years will be taken to logical end. “We will continue our struggle till right to self-determination is given to us,” he said.
