05-06-2012
MIRANSHAH, (The News): Sixteen people, including suspected militants, were killed and some others injured in one of the deadliest US drone strikes in North Waziristan at Hasukhel village of Mir Ali subdivision on Monday, tribal sources said.

They said the drone fired two missiles that struck a house in the village, killing six people on the spot and injuring five others.

“Later, the drone fired another two missiles and killed 10 people when villagers rushed there and started rescue work for retrieving the bodies and pulling out the injured persons from the debris of the house,” they added.

Villagers said four people were injured in the second attack and were taken to a local hospital in Mir Ali where the doctors reported that they were in critical condition. The villagers claimed all those killed and injured in the two strikes were local residents.

They said six drones were seen flying over the village during the attack. The villagers said rescue work was started again when the drones had disappeared after the second attack.

They said 16 bodies were retrieved from the debris of the collapsed house. “Almost all bodies were burnt beyond recognition,” a tribesman said, wishing not to be named.

The residents said the drones had constantly been targeting Hasukhel and carried out four attacks in the village over the past few days. It was also in Hasukhel that the drones had attacked a mosque a few days ago and killed 10 people. The government officials confirmed the latest drone strikes and termed it one of the deadliest in the recent past.
